Intro

“Touch”, released on August 10, 2023, is a single by otom that emphasizes a rich, guitar-driven sound. Based on simple chord progressions, the track features a small-ensemble arrangement with a focus on live energy, layered guitars, drums that combine lightness and weight, and driving bass, with vocals and harmonies exploring the nuances of human communication. Recording was guided otom’s recent theme of “relaxation” in mind, giving the performance a natural, effortless feel.

The song originally appeared on otom’s second album, “Voice Called From Within The Wall” (2004), which focused mainly on acoustic sounds. For this single release, the lyrics were translated into Japanese, and all parts were re-recorded and reconstructed while maintaining the essence of the original composition.

Note

Touch revisits a song from nearly 20 years ago, reimagined with a modern perspective. Production began in March 2023 and proceeded alongside the creation of an album planned for 2023-2024. Drums and bass were given higher resolution to enhance the track’s depth, and stereo imaging was improved, resulting in a version that feels almost like a new song compared to the original. From May 2023 onward, the mix and mastering were further refined between other projects. This process culminated in the single’s release in the summer of 2023.

Amid work on the upcoming album and the remix EP equal 2 (tentative title), otom is planning to release several more singles within the year. “Touch”, completed during these busy months of mid-2023, offers a glimpse of this creative period. Enjoy listening.
