Bizarre Love Triangle

New Order cover song written by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert

From the album “Brotherhood” (1986)

Intro

A cover of New Order’s classic “Bizarre Love Triangle,” originally released in 1986. Arranged in a shoegaze style built around noise loops and guitars, it highlights the song’s iconic rhythm while reshaping it into a different overall mood. A heavy rhythm supports the track, and repeating layers of noise add a sense of tension throughout the song. This track was created alongside “Normalize”, which was released on October 5, 2018.

Note

This cover started with the idea of replacing the familiar bass line with the rhythm of a floor tom, then slowly breaking down and rebuilding the song’s structure. A lo-fi electric piano loop with a slightly nostalgic, folktronica feel forms the base, while a new chorus melody and vocals—different from the original—are layered on top. In the second half, loud shoegaze-style guitars are added, gradually wrapping around the whole track. The ending leaves a quiet loop that gently leads into “Normalize”, which was released on the same day. The idea for this arrangement came around 2006, and the song changed shape over many years, including an acoustic version released on an EP. With this release, the full version is finally completed, reaching the form originally imagined.
