The Girl EP is an experimental work where each track has its own unique texture, from short loops and overlapping guitar and vocal layers to a serene cover song using multi-tracked vocals. The contrast between the original pop-focused “Girl” and the cleaner, more upbeat “Girl (Normal)”, as well as the short, ambient track “Love Song”, creates a varied listening experience that gently guides the listener through the flow of time across the EP.

1. Love Song (Short)

“Love Song” is an ambient instrumental built around a loop of voice and reverse-processed guitar. As layers of sound slowly overlap, the piece creates a quiet, deep atmosphere. This EP includes a short version of the track, running for about two minutes, as its opening piece. A longer version, which unfolds gently over ten minutes, is included on the 4th full-length album “Hidden Sun”, released in 2008.

2. Girl

“Girl” opens with a sharp-toned guitar and serves as the title track of this EP, written in 2007. It brings forward otom’s most pop-oriented side, moves through layered guitar and vocal phrases, a floating electric piano sound, melodic bass lines, and light, driving drums.

3. Suicide Is Painless

“Suicide Is Painless” is a short cover of the theme song from the film “M*A*S*H”. The track uses no instruments and is built only from layered vocals. With a calm and solemn mood, it has a hymn-like feel. The sadness of the original melody is brought out through simple layers of voice alone. This song is also included on the 2008 release “Hidden Sun”.

4. Girl (Normal)

“Girl (Normal)” is an alternate version of “Girl”, built around cleaner arpeggiated guitar lines. Compared to the original, it features lighter and more upbeat drums, giving the track a brighter and fresher feel. While the layered guitar and vocal phrases remain the same, the song takes on a completely different mood, standing as an independent piece in its own right.
