Lyrics

Fade

Intro

“Fade” is a single released on August 8, 2020, about the distance between stars, dust, and this side and the other side. It comes after the release of “Awake” on May 31, 2020. The silent bursts and light of the stars are shown through contrasts of stillness and motion. The oldest version was created around 2005, a simple recording with two acoustic guitars and two vocal tracks, treated with spacey effects. It remained unreleased for a long time, then went through various arrangements and finally took its current form, blending old and new methods. Several guitars and loops form the core, layered with heavy drums and bass, piano, and horns, while interweaving vocals create complex textures. All parts and sequences were re-recorded and rebuilt for this release.

Note

According to vague memories and my notes, the first demo of this song was recorded around late 2004 to early 2005. It was made at the same time as “The Night in the Rainbow” (2005), and has many things in common with that time, like the habit of adding short reverses to anything (which hasn’t changed much). At this stage, the chord progression and melody were mostly set, and I remember it being one of my favorite song ideas at the time. The acoustic guitar sounded fine, but the vocals had issues, so I re-recorded them with almost the same setup and uploaded that version to SoundCloud. It can be listened to from the bottom of this page. After that, the song kept being left out of several release selections. Originally, it was planned to be released after “Wanderers” (2016). It went through 4–5 different arrangements, re-recordings, and mixing over more than six months, almost becoming a completely different song. However, I was not satisfied and the project stalled. During that time, the next release, “Talk” (2017), came out first for some reason, and once again this song stayed hidden from the public. Because of these experiences, around the end of 2019 I wanted to clean up the massive project data and started working on it again. The failed mixing of the complex arrangements from 2016 had been partially solved, giving me more confidence to rework the song. After much consideration, the version released this time is based on version 4, which had mostly taken shape back in 2016. After the release of “Awake”, I pushed it forward and finally completed it.

After finishing, I felt free to experiment, and created a drone extra version using harmonium-like sounds. This version is also uploaded to SoundCloud and can be listened to from the bottom of this page.

Outro

“Fade” is a song that shapes what I wanted to do, without sticking to any genre. And both the old and new versions can be enjoyed.

“Fade” is available on major streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, and high-quality versions can be purchased on Bandcamp.
