Intro
“Awake” is a mid-tempo experimental pop / dream pop single released on May 31, 2020, with a floating, airy feel. It follows the release of “24” on March 31, 2020. Built on swinging drums and low-tone bass, the track layers arpeggiated and looped guitar phrases with delay and noise, and overdriven guitars fill the space. As usual, many tracks of hazy, blurry vocals are added, and the wordplay in the lyrics is kept the same from the re-recording. Originally written around 2009, the song remained unreleased for a long time. At one point, a release under a different name was also planned. For this release, all parts and sequences were newly recorded and fully rebuilt.
Note
Following “24”, this track is, as usual, a song with a feel of that famous one everyone loves. Although I tried and worked on many phrases from 2009 to avoid it, in the end I kept the original form, following the mood and energy of that time. Mixing and mastering was hard again, but I noticed an important point only now, which made the sound change a lot, including deeper low tones. For the cover design, which shows faces inspired by sleep and wake, I once again asked monaminami for help. Based on my idea, she came up with many ideas for the tough challenge of keeping it as simple as possible.
Outro
“Awake” is rebuilt as a floating experimental pop song. All parts of the previously unreleased 2009 track were re-recorded, and layered guitars with a low-end sound create a gentle sway. Enjoy both the old and new versions.
